I have been on a path of recovery since September of 2020. For me this means that I have accepted that I have a problem with addiction, and that I need to take steps to pursue a life of fulfillment and contentment without dependency on alcohol or other substances.
My relationship with alcohol and substances started when I was 18 years old. I began using alcohol in social settings to ease feelings of social awkwardness. It grew over 20 years to the level of physical dependence. For over 20 years, alcohol was a cornerstone of my identity and my lifestyle. I was able to have a successful career and start a family. But, as my relationship with alcohol grew, the life that I had put together was crumbling. It led to legal problems, loss of my marriage and my career and isolation from society. It pushed my mental and physical health to the brink of death!
The foundation of my recovery is built upon my faith, engagement within the sober support community, the fellowship of AA, as well as a very supportive family and group of friends. I consider myself very fortunate to have been able to see the light of hope thru recovery. It hasn’t been an easy journey and has seen several reoccurrences. The foundation of my recovery and my resolve to pursue a life of fulfillment and contentment in sobriety has strengthened thru these.
In August of 2024, after being laid off from a corporate career of 15 years, I decided to start The Recovery Mission to help those suffering from substance abuse find their way on a path of recovery. I have a Certified Peer Recovery Advocate (CRPA-P) certification and am working towards my Credential Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC-T) certification. I am excited for the opportunity to give back to my community and directly help others who are struggling as I have.
